Personal Care Attendant (PCA) Skills Trainer
General Description of Duties: Will provide skills training, peer mentoring, service coordination and other supportive services to people with disabilities who are using or wish to be evaluated for the personal care attendant (PCA) program. Will work with individual consumers to educate them on how a consumer uses the PCA program and will provide information and updates as needed on program changes, including information on program guidelines and regulations, documentation requirements, and relevant community services and resources.
Essential Job Functions: § Determines if individuals may be eligible for Mass Health benefits. § Assesses if an individual has the ability and skills to live independently and manage his or her own PCA program or if they can do so with the assistance of a surrogate or case manager. § Articulates the PCA Provider Agency’s (BCIL) role and Fiscal Intermediary’s (FI) role as outlined in the MassHealth handbook. § Must understand and communicate the role of the FI, including a consumer’s option to manage the FI component; must have knowledge of and ability to train consumer how to complete all Federal and State reporting requirements (e.g. EIN, SS-4, I-9, etc). § Conducts program intake and provides orientation and ongoing skills training and peer mentoring to consumers individually or in groups. § Coordinates services with other agencies (such as VNA, HHA, MRC, DMH, DMR, etc) and BCIL services (i.e. Adult and Youth Specialists, I&R, etc). § Completes documentation on a weekly basis of skills training, I&R, Peer Mentoring, etc. provided to each consumer. § Has a working knowledge of contract requirements such as timelines for contacting consumers, providing services, and documenting services. § Has a working knowledge of PCA program regulations regarding consumer eligibility requirements as well as other pertinent information. § Participates in organization staff meetings, PCA Department meetings, and other external meetings as required § Engages in advocacy for the rights of people with disabilities as appropriate and will promote the mission of BCIL. § Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications: § At least one year’s experience in a human services field or relevant personal independent living experiences. § Effective communication skills essential and writing and reporting skills necessary. § Computer skills a major plus. § Ability to manage time effectively and carry out projects independently, within a team setting, is essential. § Knowledge of Spanish and other languages a plus.
Hours: 40 hours per week Monday through Friday with some flexibility, reporting to the Senior PCA Skills Trainer.
Compensation: 2 weeks paid vacation (increases with length of service) 2 personal days 11 holidays 12 sick days Health, dental, (75% paid by agency). Short-term disability, long-term disability, group life insurance 100% company paid.
Salary: $26,000.00 annually.
